As a professional magician since the age of 10, magic has helped me build confidence in many areas of my life. After five years of sitting on this project I promised myself that this fall KidsDoMagic would become a reality.
Today is Halloween and it’s 11:35pm. I promised myself that I would make the announcement about the release of this project sometime during the day & my time is drawing to an end. October 31st is symbolic for two reasons. It’s both National Magic Day & the end of National Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Both have influenced my life in many ways.
See before I was Lee “El Gringuito” I was the “Amazing Lee.” Or that was my stage name I created after years of practicing. It all started when I was about 8 years old. You see my Aunt Emily took me to Tannen’s magic shop in Manhattan, NYC. I was moving from Brooklyn to the Poconos & she wanted to make sure that I had a fun hobby. Well I had already gone through collecting stones, baseball cards, coins, stamps & comic books. Yeah I was that kid.
Moving to a new school district meant making new friends & being a short kid with a Brooklyn accent didn’t work out so well for me. I was bullied many times! But magic came into my life helped me build confidence and one day kids were like, “don’t mess with that kid he knows how to float!”
When I was in school we didn’t have social media. So the bully was a handful of kids. Today, our youth has to deal with Social Media bullying & it’s taking a toll. Here is a sobering fact. Childhood suicide is up 13% due to social media pressures & KidsDoMagic will hopefully save a life, build confidence & give kids the successful tools to believe in themselves. Once a month they will get a couple magic tricks in the mail that will not only teach them the trick, but more importantly improve on motor skills, learning & most importantly self confidence. There will be life lessons connected to each trick. The magic trick is simply a vehicle to building self esteem!
I am proud to say KidsDoMagic will be partnering with Anti-Bullying campaigns & donating to those in need. There is so much more I have to say, but its almost midnight. I will write a full post, but KidsDoMagic will launch end of November/Early December just in time for the holiday season.
Thank you all for listening.
